Build skills

Build your online skills with our Get Connected series.

Our expert trainers will help residents (especially seniors) get the most from our connected world and stay safe online. Explore the series and learn more about technology-related topics like MyGov and My Health Record; how to book transport on your smartphone; how to sell surplus household goods online; streaming services and online entertainment; and how to use technology during travel.

Did you know you can drop into any of our libraries for assistance with mobile devices? Our friendly team can assist with basic questions and trouble shooting, and can show you how to use the digital collections.

Seed Library – grow your garden and gardening know-how

How? Become a Seed Library member today, then drop into any of our four libraries, borrow up to three packets of seeds each month to plant and grow at your home.

Seeds include vegetables and herbs, heirloom, Indigenous and native varieties. Since launching in mid-March, more than 500 residents have signed up as members, 1,782 packets of seeds have been borrowed and 533 packets of seed have been donated back to the libraries to share with the community and local environment. From amazing, little things… big things do grow!

We also invite you to build your gardening knowledge with these two fantastic free events:

  • Gardener Kat Lavers demonstrates how to propagate seeds, and some fruit trees and herbs, using simple techniques; and provides advice on making your own seed-raising mix for better results, 10 September, 10.30am–12.30pm, Toorak/South Yarra Library.
  • Sustainable Gardening Australia presents a Zoom webinar on how to manage garden pests the healthy way, when to consider garden chemicals and how companion planting can help control garden pests and diseases, 10 November, 6.30pm–8pm, online.
