Youth Week Begins In ACT

ACT Youth Week runs from 11 to 21 April and provides an opportunity for Canberra to reflect on and celebrate the positive difference young people make to our community.

Across Canberra, the ACT Government is running and supporting a broad range of accessible events and initiatives to celebrate youth week.

More than 800 young people and their families have already registered to attend one of the Government’s free events across the week such as a tour of the National Zoo and Aquarium, movie screenings and ice-skating.

“Youth Week is all about acknowledging the diverse and innovative contributions young Canberrans are making to our city,” Minister for Youth Affairs Yvette Berry said.

“The ACT Government is supporting several organisations and group to run their own unique Youth Week celebrations in their local community.

“Our 2024 Youth Week Grant Program is supporting a great number of initiatives such as the 12 Hour Theatre Project, Hare Krishna Canberra Ram Navami Youth Project and African Youth Drum and Dance Workshop, just to name a few.

“I encourage all young Canberrans to get involved during Youth Week.”

Quotes attributable to Youth Advisory Council Chair Lily Harrison:

“Youth Week is a celebration of young people aged 12 to 25 and their contributions to our community.

“In addition to being an opportunity to enjoy a number of free events across Canberra, this week is an opportunity to spotlight the concerns, needs and ideas of young Canberrans.

“The ACT Youth Advisory Council strongly believes young people should be meaningfully included in the decisions that affect us and our community now and into the future – youth week is one mechanism by which we can initiate this engagement.”
