Youth Week WA activities empowering young people with Courage to Change

  • Over 50 events and activities funded through this year’s Youth Week WA grants program taking place across WA
  • 54 Youth Week WA grants awarded to community organisations and local governments
  • Youth Week WA 2022 will run from April 8 to 16
  • Tomorrow marks the start of this year’s Youth Week WA, the annual State-wide celebration of young people in the community, and will run until Saturday, April 16.

Youth Week is Western Australia’s largest annual celebration of young people aged 10 to 25, providing opportunities to express ideas, raise important issues and explore solutions.

It is an occasion that showcases projects that are developed and delivered by young people, for young people.

The theme for this year is ‘Courage to Change’ – a call to action aimed at empowering young people to shape decision-making, enact change and imagine the futures we wish to inhabit.

The annual KickstART Festival, which is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA in partnership with the Department of Communities, offers an exciting schedule, from workshops and performances, to exhibitions, mentorships and a virtual market spotlighting local entrepreneurs.

Details about this year’s KickstART Festival program can be found at kickstartfestival.org.au

More than 50 other events and activities funded through this year’s Youth Week WA grants program are planned across the State during Youth Week 2022.

As stated by Youth Minister Dave Kelly:

“I’m delighted to announce that Youth Week WA, the State’s largest annual celebration of young people, is back in 2022.

“These activities provide young people in local communities across the State with opportunities to be key contributors in the planning, development and delivery of Youth Week WA events and projects, and to have their voices heard.

“The theme for Youth Week WA 2022 is ‘Courage to Change’, which grew from discussions with young people about the many ways that change happens, be it social change, personal change, political change, or ecological changes.

“‘Courage to Change’ is a call to action, empowering young people to form their own opinions, shape decision-making and enact change, and I look forward to seeing this play out in Youth Week WA 2022.”
