Yarragon Shady Creek Road and Neerim North Road are set for major upgrades thanks to a $1.5 million funding boost from the Fixing Country Roads Program by Regional Roads Victoria.
Baw Baw Shire Council applied for the funding to subsidise costly upgrade works to enhance safety, connectivity, reliability and efficiency of both roads.
Both projects will be delivered as part of the 2019/20 capital works program.
Yarragon Shady Creek Road
$1.03 million in funding has been secured towards the $1.55 million project to widen, stabilise and seal approximately two kilometres between Reserve Road and North Canal Road.
Upgrade works will repair existing sections of the road and seal shoulders on corners. Works will also include tree trimming and removal to improve visibility and clearance distance.
Neerim North Road
$513,000 in funding has been secured towards the $769,000 project to also widen, stabilise and seal approximately three kilometres over four sections of the road.
Upgrade works will include:
- Installation of additional cross road culverts and subsoil drainage.
- Strengthened road pavement through in situ stabilisation and new road base material.
- Wider road pavement with re-cut table drains and box out widening slots.
This project has been identified as a priority project through the capital works planning and community consultation.

“In its current state, Yarragon Shady Creek Road is subject to shoulder drop offs and edge breaks from large trucks. Once the upgrade is complete, the road will be safer and more reliable for all vehicles including large B-double cattle trucks, milk tankers, produce carriers, local residents and emergency services.”
