2019 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Finalists Announced

Congratulations to 21Territory artists who have been announced as finalists for the prestigious 2019Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award.

Department ofTourism, Sport and Culture, Director of Arts NT, Angela Hill, said the Portraitof a Senior Territorian Award and exhibition celebrates the significantcontributions senior Territorians make to our community and recognisesoutstanding Territory artists.

This Award isimportant for the profile of the arts sector as it encourages and recognises portraitartists and senior Territorians and draws Territory wide interest andparticipation, Ms Hill said.

This yearssubjects are a diverse mix, including a portrait of composer and director, NoraLewis AM who received an Order of Australia in 2011 for her contribution to theperforming arts in the Northern Territory by fellow Darwin artist CedricLawrence. Artists include previous award winners, a graphic designer, seniorTerritorians and an artist who first exhibited in Washington at the age ofeight.

The Award andExhibition will be hosted by the Northern Territory Library in Parliament Housewith winners announced at the opening on Friday 8 November. The exhibition willthen be on display for the general public from Saturday 9 November until Sunday15 December 2019.

The public areencouraged to come and support the Territorys only portrait art award and votefor the Peoples Choice Award, (after the exhibition is open), either in personor online at dtsc.nt.gov.au/poast. The Peoples Choice winner will be announced on Monday 16 December2019 and they will take home $1,000.
