2023 Kempsey Cup part-day local event

Kempsey Shire Council

Happy Kempsey Cup Day!

The Minister of Employee Relations has declared the 2023 Kempsey Cup to be a part-day local event from midday to 6pm for the Kempsey Shire.

A local event day is distinct from a local public holiday and are requested by Council in order to commemorate a day of special significance to the local community.

Local event days do not mean that employers in the Kempsey Shire are automatically obliged to treat the part-day as a public holiday. Employers do not have to pay their staff penalty rates. It also means that banks or shops are not prevented from opening or trading.

A local event day will only apply to workplaces where awards, agreements, or contracts with employees provide for the day to be treated as a public holiday.

Councillors agreed in October 2022 to submit the applications to the Minster for declaration.

The applications were advertised online for submissions from businesses and the community with no feedback received.
