$5.6 million in fantasy seized

One man has been arrested and police have seized millions of dollars’ worth of fantasy in a joint operation on the weekend.

On Saturday 27 November, detectives from Serious and Organised Crime Branch, Crime Service, Western District CIB and Dog Operations Unit attended a Largs Bay address and arrested a 54-year-old Fulham Gardens man.

He was charged with attempt trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug and bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 23 December.

SAPOL were notified by Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) after 800 litres of 1,4-Butanediol (known as fantasy) arrived in Sydney from overseas, destined for South Australia.

In a joint operation between ABF, DHA, Australian Federal Police, New South Wales Police and SAPOL, the fantasy, equating 800, 000 doses and with a street value of $5.6 million, was intercepted and seized.

As part of the investigation, SAPOL searched four addresses in the western suburbs, seizing $90, 000 cash and prohibited weapons, including Tasers, batons and daggers.

Further arrests are anticipated.

Detective Chief Inspector Denise Gray, Serious and Organised Crime Branch, said, “This was a significant seizure and the largest consignment ever destined for South Australia.

“SAPOL continue to work with our state and national partners to prevent illegal substances entering South Australia.

“Tragically, the use of fantasy has been connected with deaths both here and interstate.

“I would ask anyone who has information about this shipment or anyone involved in the importation of illicit drugs to report it to police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – information can be provided anonymously.”
