A big win for sports lovers in Adelaide Hills

Sports lovers in the Adelaide Hills have had a huge win with $2.77 million worth of upgrades to local sports venues.

Senator for South Australia Anne Ruston said the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government had committed $2 million to build a new regional sports hub in Mount Barker.

“The funding will go towards the construction of the Mount Barker Sports Complex which will include an Australian Rules football and cricket oval, two synthetic soccer pitches, sports lighting and

amenity buildings,” Senator Ruston said.

“$550,000 will also go towards upgrading the facilities at the Encounter Bay Sports Complex so that they meet Australian standards for disability access.

“The Summertown Community Centre will also receive better amenities with $130,000 to construct a new toilet block for both the public and local sporting clubs to use.

“$60,000 will be invested in the Mount Compass Community Sports and Social Club to ensure it meets new building standards for fire safety, including water storage, pipework and a fire hydrant.

“And the Clarendon Netball Club has been granted $30,000 to construct a secure shed to store their sporting equipment.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said these sorts of projects would have a significant impact on local sports organisations.

“Sporting clubs are the backbone of our regional communities, bringing people together and keeping locals fit and healthy,” Mr McCormack said.

“Whether it’s in a team environment such as football or netball, or an individual sport such as tennis or golf, sport plays an important role in connecting our communities.

“I’m proud the Liberals and Nationals are investing in these projects and are helping to build even stronger relationships among local residents.”
