The 2019 Kings Park Festival has kicked off with a month-long program of over 100 events and activities with the stars of the show – thousands of Western Australia’s famous wildflowers in full bloom.
The family-friendly program of mainly free events includes guided wildflower walks, outdoor wellness events including yoga, meditation and tai chi classes and outdoor exhibitions and community art installations celebrating WA’s unique natural environment.
The festival program includes Kings Park’s largest ever community arts project ‘Floral Regalia by Lotterywest’, on show in the WA Botanic Garden throughout September, displaying more than 400 woven and crocheted ‘wildflowers’ created by people from all walks of life.
The Friends of Kings Park will host their biggest native plant sale of the year on September 14- 15, with more than 9,500 plants available for purchase including 11 species on sale for the first time.
Nearly 30,000 plants have been planted by horticulturists and volunteers for spring, with several species being introduced to Kings Park for the first time including threatened species Eucalyptus impensa, and Eremophila or ‘Poverty Bush’ as it is commonly known, native to arid regions of WA.
The Kings Park Festival is presented by Kings Park and Botanic Garden and the Friends of Kings Park along with the generous support of Lotterywest – who have contributed to the festival for over 10 years.
As stated by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:

“The festival connects the community to its natural heritage and helps us to understand and appreciate our extraordinary biodiversity, encouraging protection of our environment for the future.
“I am delighted to see the Kings Park Festival set spring off to a start as it will no doubt attract visitors to Perth from across Australia and the world.”
