A good excuse to stay in your pyjamas this Friday

It’s the perfect excuse to stay in your pyjamas all day while supporting an organisation that helps vulnerable Queensland children.

Minister for Child Safety Di Farmer is challenging all Queenslanders to keep their pyjamas on for the day in support of The Pyjama Foundation this Friday, July 19.

“This organisation and its team of volunteers work so hard with vulnerable children in our communities, sharing their love of learning and reading with children in care,” she said.

“Pyjama Day is such an easy way to support them and help pass on your own love of learning.

“It couldn’t be easier, or comfier, all you have to do is keep your pyjamas on for the day and make a donation – big or small – to The Pyjama Foundation.”

Ms Farmer said all funds raised helped encourage children to read and helps the foundation to recruit, train and support Pyjama Angels who visit children in foster and kinship care.

“These volunteers give up their own time to help children with reading, literacy and other skills and by doing this they are really fostering a love of learning,” she said.

“We want every child in Queensland to have equal opportunities and a bright future, and the work of the Pyjama Angels is helping us achieve this.”

The Pyjama Foundation founder Bronwyn Sheehan said children in care needed extra support and empowerment to help them towards a brighter future.

“Last year we had 120,000 participants who kept their pyjamas on for the day raising a whopping $256,000,” she said.

“This year we would love to see even more people take part and help us make 2019 our biggest year yet.

“As our largest fundraising campaign on the year, these donations are absolutely crucial in allowing us to continue bringing many more Pyjama Angel volunteers into the lives of children in care.”

Brisbane’s Story Bridge will be lit up pink, white and blue to celebrate Pyjama Day.

Funds raised from Pyjama Day will go towards the recruitment and training of more Pyjama Angels as well as learning resources for the children including books, puzzles and educational games.
