Rosebud will be receiving 40km/h speed limits across 24 residential streets as part of Mornington Peninsula Shire’s efforts to improve road and pedestrian safety.
Shire-wide analysis highlighted the residential areas of Rosebud, Hastings and Dromana as having the highest number of casualty crashes in the Shire and the highest risk of future crashes.
As part of Council’s $700,000 Safer Residential Areas Project, together with funding from the state government’s Safe System Road Infrastructure Program, infrastructure has been installed in these three townships over the past 18 months.
Rosebud has been selected as the first township for complementary speed reductions as part of this project.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said “this area-wide approach to road safety was well received during the community consultation in 2018 and aims to reduce the number of cars using these residential streets as a thoroughfare during peak season, as well as to achieve safer speeds”.
Seawinds Ward Councillor Simon Brooks said “the safety of our community is one of our highest priorities. Road improvements such as this one all help in our efforts to becoming a Towards Zero municipality”.
Seawinds Ward Councillor Frank Martin said “as a Towards Zero municipality, Council is committed to creating a safe road system including safer roads and roadsides, safer vehicles, safer road users and safer speeds”.
Seawinds Ward Councillor Antonella Celi said “this project is part of our commitment to improving our road network and increasing the safety and effective travel of our community. The treatment proposals are a result of an extensive community consultation where a majority of local respondents supported the speed limit reductions throughout Rosebud”.
Along with a more appropriate speed limit, other traffic calming treatments and pedestrian facilities have already been installed throughout Rosebud.
The majority of works in Rosebud have now been completed, with the McCombe Street raised intersection due to be finished in early July 2020.
