An exciting State-wide teacher scholarship program has been established to build on the strengths of Aboriginal school students and further support them to thrive academically and socially.
Aspiring Aboriginal secondary teachers who want to make a difference in the lives of children and young people are encouraged to apply for one of two opportunities, which are named in honour of former Prime Minister Bob Hawke.
The Bob Hawke Aboriginal teacher scholarships will support the successful applicants to complete an undergraduate secondary teacher qualification valued at up to $30,000, or a postgraduate qualification valued at up to $16,000 to transfer existing skills to become a secondary teacher.
The Department of Education is dedicated to increasing the number of Aboriginal secondary teachers in Western Australia.

“These scholarships are named in honour of Bob Hawke’s lifelong support of indigenous rights, and his vision of a fair and inclusive Australia.
“Our schools are committed to being culturally inclusive environments and increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people teaching in our secondary schools.”
