Fitness centres and indoor pools are among the facilities which have reopened or expanded services following the Victorian Government’s further relaxation of restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
Fitness centres
Fitness centres reopened today [note: Thursday 29 October] for members under the existing 24/7 operating model, and from 6am for casual users. The gyms will operate with limited numbers in defined areas of up to 20 people in the facility.
Indoor pools
Indoor pools in Gisborne and Kyneton reopened last week with age restrictions. Swimming is available today for all ages with limited numbers in each pool. Aqua aerobics classes are also available for groups of 20 people. Council encourages members and casual swimmers to visit our website to confirm recreational swimming times and safety protocols.
Swimming lessons will return for existing students enrolled in the program from 9 November and for new enrolments from 23 November. Due to the disrupted term, remaining classes will be structured differently and therefore families are encouraged to contact centres to secure places. It is anticipated that regular learn to swim programming will restart from Term 1 2021, where existing enrolment places will be honoured.
Indoor stadiums
Indoor stadiums and program rooms will be available to hire from Monday 2 November for non-contact sport including dance for those aged 18 years and under (with limits on the numbers of participants). Facility hire for outdoor non-contact sport for adults will continue to be available, with limits on numbers playing or training.
Signage at reopened Council facilities will urge community members to comply with physical distancing directions and to practise good hand hygiene.
In coming weeks Council will look to reopen further facilities in line with government advice, following appropriate assessments and subject to appropriate restrictions being in place to ensure the health and safety of the community.
