More families will be offered emergency accommodation as the Palaszczuk Government invests millions of dollars in additional funding for housing support for Queenslanders who need it most.
The Government will invest another $23 million for Immediate Housing Response for Families to provide emergency accommodation for families experiencing homelessness.
Tens of millions of dollars have already been allocated through IHRF funding to pay for emergency accommodation for thousands of families.
The announcement coincides with the first release of the social housing register quarterly data showing stabilising demand for social housing.
Housing register applications for the September quarter are at 25,362 – slightly lower that at June 30.
In the past 90 days, the government has found a social home for 848 new households while also helping renters offering $10 million in support.
Also today, the Open Data Portal was updated with figures showing an increase in social housing tenancies and a drop in unoccupied homes.
The data highlights the need for ongoing vacancy management and rollout of indigenous housing in remote and discrete communities.
It’s why the government established a dedicated vacancy management team and in its latest budget, committed more funding for delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing state wide.
This is part of a commitment to transparency.
The state government remains committed to working with all levels of government, with Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon to meet with South East Queensland mayors on Friday to discuss the growing demand for social and affordable housing.
