Ai Group Welcomes New Queensland Cabinet

National employer association the Australian Industry Group has welcomed Queensland Premier David Crisafulli’s new cabinet and looks forward to working collaboratively for a stronger state.

Ai Group Head of Queensland Michelle Farquhar and Head of Northern Australia Dean Deighton said there was a huge opportunity to resolve the challenges and obstacles of doing business in the state – from skills and housing shortages to accessing reliable and affordable energy.

Ms Farquhar said it was encouraging to see the energy portfolio sit with Treasurer David Janetzki, one of the most senior members of government.

“We also look forward to working with Ros Bates, whose portfolios take in Employment and Training, both areas Ai Group strongly advocates for – through our Apprentice and Trainee Centre and Centre for Education and Training,” she said.

“Businesses cannot prosper without skilled workers.”

The appointment of Dale Last as Minister for Regional and Rural Development, Manufacturing and Resources and Mines has also been welcomed.

“Minister Last, working and living in North Queensland, will understand only too well the opportunities and challenges for the regions,” Mr Deighton said.

“A diverse industry base is vital to Queensland’s economy, with the state fast becoming an economic powerhouse.”

Tim Mander was announced as the new Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will present the state with many exciting opportunities,” Ms Farquhar said.

“Ai Group looks forward to working with the new cabinet to ensure we can support our members and industry more broadly.

“Mr Crisafulli’s government has a huge opportunity to deliver an environment for industry and communities to thrive.”
