Another negative Ferguson release won’t change facts

Tasmanian Labor
  • Michael Ferguson completely failing to deliver infrastructure
  • Liberals only delivered 31% of its infrastructure budget by the end of February
  • Only Labor is working for Tasmanians for real economic outcomes
  • Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson cannot change the facts, he is completely failing to deliver the infrastructure Peter Gutwein promised Tasmanians.

Shadow Treasurer David O’Byrne said Treasury’s numbers show the Government had delivered just 31% of its infrastructure budget by the end of February.

“If this rate of failure continues for the remaining four months of the year, the Government will fail to deliver more than $600 million worth of housing, hospitals, schools and road upgrades,” Mr O’Byrne said.

“That means more ramping, longer waiting lists, families homeless during winter and commuters stuck in traffic. And of course, it means fewer jobs.

“Even Treasury don’t believe a word the Liberals say when it comes to infrastructure.

“Treasury said they were of the view that it is likely that Infrastructure Investment outcomes over the Forward Estimates period will be lower than currently projected by agencies.

“Treasury also called out this Government’s woeful record of delivery, noting they have failed to deliver 25% of what they promised every year since coming to office.

“Instead of taking issue to my assessment, Michael Ferguson should get to work delivering what Peter Gutwein has promised Tasmanians, because the Liberal’s health and housing crisis have gone on too long.

“Only Labor is working for Tasmanians to build a better and fairer state.”
