Another Tech Leader Sets Up Australian HQ In Melbourne

Leading global payment solutions provider Worldline has chosen Melbourne as the location for its Australian headquarters and innovation centre, supporting hundreds of highly skilled jobs in the financial technology sector.

Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula today welcomed Worldline’s investment, which will boost Melbourne’s reputation as an international financial technology hub.

With support from the Andrews Labor Government, Worldline has set up its headquarters in the Docklands business precinct where it will deliver merchant payment solutions as part of a joint venture with ANZ, called ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions.

The new operations will support more than 350 Melbourne-based roles across the joint venture and Worldline’s support services, including 185 newly created roles and 169 roles transferring from ANZ’s local operations.

The company – Europe’s largest technology provider for merchants, banks and financial institutions – is also investing $22.4 million in technological developments over the next five years from its new Melbourne base.

Victoria is a leading destination for financial services with the sector employing more than 120,000 people and contributing $47 billion each year to the local economy.

This announcement is an example of the Labor Government’s International Investment Strategy in action, a blueprint to attract more international investment on growth areas like financial technology.

Worldline joins other technology leaders from around the globe that have chosen to establish their regional headquarters in Melbourne including Zendesk, Infosys, Square and NCS.

As stated by Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula

“We have a strong track record in attracting top tech companies to Victoria to create new jobs.”

“Worldline is a major global fintech player and its new base in Melbourne will provide opportunities for local workers to pursue their careers in their own city.”

As stated by ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions CEO Petr Ryska

“Worldline chose Melbourne as our base because of the partnership opportunities the city offers across the financial services and technology sectors.”
