Anyone Can Save Life – 15 Minutes Is All It Takes

  • The Road Safety Commission and St John WA partner on new post-crash response campaign
  • RSC contributes $400,000 to campaign to target young drivers
  • 15 per cent of WA road fatalities can be prevented by first aid

The Cook Government is launching a campaign to save lives on Western Australian roads after a crash occurs.

The Anyone Can Save a Life campaign highlights how everyone can save a life if they understand a few simple First Aid actions.

The first four-minutes after a crash are vital because it takes only four-minutes for a person involved in a crash to die from a blocked airway.

Fifteen per cent of WA road fatalities can be prevented by administering First Aid.

The campaign encourages road users to complete a 15-minute free online emergency first aid course provided by St John WA.

This course can be found at https://firstaidforme.stjohnwa.com.au/first-aid-for-drivers

The campaign is a joint initiative between St John WA and the Road Safety Commission (RSC), with the RSC contributing $400,000.

As stated by Road Safety Minister David Michael:

“Post-Crash Response is one of the five priority areas of the State Government Driving Change Road Safety Strategy 20202030.

“The campaign highlights how postcrash care is vital in reducing the impact of road crashes with the key message being that it doesn’t take much to save a life.

“I have completed the online training course and recommend it to all drivers. It takes about 15 minutes and if it means it saves a life, it is time well spent.

“Of course, it would be preferable if there was no need for post-crash responses, and with this in mind I want to remind all motorists that the number one killer on our roads is speed, so please slow down and drive to the conditions.

“As the busy Easter period approaches and with double demerits in place from Thursday, 28 March to Monday, 1 April, I want to appeal to all Western Australians to exercise safety on our roads.”
