Appeal for information following serious assault – Blacktown

Police have released CCTV vision and are seeking assistance from the public, after an employee was seriously assaulted at a Blacktown supermarket yesterday.

Just before 6:30pm (Sunday 18 February 2024), a man entered the self-service area at a supermarket on Patrick Street, and was stopped by an employee after reportedly attempting to leave the store without paying for items.

The man pushed the employee, a 64-year-old man, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the floor before leaving store. He was last seen boarding a train at Schofields Railway Station.

The injured employee was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital where his condition deteriorated and he remains in a critical condition.

Officers attached to Blacktown Police Area Command have commenced an investigation and would like to speak to a man depicted in CCTV, who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, aged in his 20s to 30s, of a large build, with black curly hair and a beard.

He is shown wearing a black jacket, black Michael Jordan t-shirt, black pants and thongs.
