The Albanese Government has reappointed Mr Stephen Rue as a Director and appointed Mr Mike Mrdak AO as a non-executive Director of the NBN Co Limited (NBN Co) Board.
Mr Rue was first appointed as CEO of NBN Co on 1 September 2018. Mr Rue has been a member of the NBN Co Executive Committee since July 2014 and is well placed to support the delivery of the company’s Corporate Plan objectives. Previous to his CEO role, Mr Rue was the Chief Financial Officer at NBN Co for more than four years. Mr Rue’s reappointment took effect from 4 September 2023.
Mr Rue has a deep knowledge of NBN Co’s governance, financial and reporting environments, and is a highly regarded senior executive and company director with more than 20 years’ experience.
The position of NBN Co CEO is now listed as a Principal Executive Office under the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973. The CEO position’s contract of employment and remuneration will be set within the limits outlined by the Remuneration Tribunal.
Mr Mrdak’s appointment ensures a strong and diverse Board will continue to oversee NBN Co. His three-year term commences on 1 October 2023.
Mr Mrdak has considerable expertise in several areas that complement the membership of the Board, including his significant government and board experience. In particular, we note his infrastructure experience, including governance of NBN Co, gained during his time in the public service.
