Army Reserve Open Day in Townsville

Department of Defence

The Australian Army Reserves 11th Brigade and Defence Force Recruiting have opened their doors to the Townsville community, showcasing their personnel, vehicles and equipment at an open day at the Australian Army Museum North Queensland at Jezzine Barracks.

Commander 11th Brigade, Brigadier Mark Armstrong, said the event was an opportunity for the community to get to know the Army Reserve better.

“The open day showcased the capability of our people – such as engineering, infantry and first aid – through displays and demonstrations, but the real opportunity was for people to meet Army Reservists and speak with them one-on-one to understand more about what they do,” Brigadier Armstrong said.

The event was co-hosted by Defence Force Recruiting, who facilitated information sessions and the opportunity to speak with Reserve personnel for prospective recruits.

“Thousands of men and women enjoy part-time roles operating alongside full-time personnel,” Brigadier Armstrong said.

“The Army Reserve in Townsville and North Queensland provides a wide array of exciting and worthwhile jobs that include highly valued leadership and vocational training opportunities.

“An Army Reserve career adds an exciting extra dimension to your work and personal life – providing transferrable skills, the ability to work close to home and flexibility for your lifestyle.

“Reserve service also allows an individual to give back something to their community and the nation.”

Army Reservists from North Queensland have played a critical role in recent years during bushfires, floods and the pandemic, and they continue to train for a wide range of contingencies and tasks both at home and overseas.
