As Omicron Cases Skyrocket, Extreme Marquees is Working on Medical Tents on War Footing

Extreme Marquees

Australia is among the worst-hit countries despite high vaccination levels

25th January, 2022, Sydney: Extreme Marquees, one of Australia’s foremost manufacturers and retailers of high-end tents and shading solutions, has once again accelerated the production of specialised medical tents. The move comes as omicron cases are breaking all previous records of breakthrough infections, meaning that even fully vaccinated citizens are falling ill yet again.

The latest reports suggest that mortality figures have topped the worst-case scenarios. While hospitalisation numbers are indeed lower than they were in 2021, there is no doubt that this so-called ‘milder strain’ cannot be taken lightly.

Australia’s leading public health experts, besides its Provincial and Federal Governments have already warned the people that this new wave is still to peak. Once it does, hospitals will once again face the nightmarish situation they did in 2021.

As a renowned and much-lauded company, Extreme Marquees has wasted no time.

It has taken the plunge to ramp up its production of several types of high-end, expert-recommended medical and isolation tents, something it had done last year as well. Thanks to the untiring efforts of Extreme Marquees and other companies retailing similar products, several major hospitals and nursing centres managed to provide temporary shelters to the ailing when the Delta variant was peaking.

Now, the company has decided to scale up its production capabilities of inflatable medical isolation tents, custom tents of varying sizes which can be placed both inside healthcare centres and in the open, isolation beds, oxygen tents, fast-deployment inflatables, besides other products.

All of these products adhere to the strict protocols recommended by the WHO. Besides, Extreme Marquees has also taken the necessary know-how and critical care measures laid down by a group of scientists from the University of Cambridge.

In simple terms, the study points out several key factors to combat the extraordinarily rapid spread of the new strain. These all-important points could not have come at a better time as Australia’s hospitals are feeling the pressure under the large volume of new cases sprouting across the country.

According to the study, bigger event tents (which Extreme Marquees manufactures throughout the year) will be the first line of defence. These giant marquees will include drive-through vaccination centres, registration counters, waiting rooms, doctors’ chambers, supply dumps and refrigeration chambers.

Smaller marquees will be placed inside the giant shell. These will have limited access and will have a negative air pressure, effectively eliminating any chance of the virus leaking outside. These chambers will be used for emergency surgeries including phlebotomies and rapid oxygenation via nebulisers.

The remaining portions of the superstructure will be mainly used as post-operative holding bays, recuperation rooms and quarantine shelters. All of these smaller structures will be interlinked and directions will be marked.

These areas will be extremely durable as Extreme Marquees uses Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), complete with a variety of sleeve fabrics, in their manufacture.

The State of Victoria has recently enacted a ‘Code Brown’ emergency plan to safeguard their struggling public health system. Several referral hospitals in Sydney & Melbourne have reported wards being occupied by ailing individuals virtually overnight.

Melbourne was under strict lockdown for over 260 days last year, and it seems the worst is still not over. Already, residents of the beleaguered city and the entire country are wondering if the Federal Government did the right thing when it decided to push on with the ‘let it rip’ strategy.

A spokesperson for Extreme Marquees was reticent on the specifics.

“Yes, we are rolling out medical beds and other paraphernalia to help combat the rising tide of infections. Like last year, our mainstay will be our X7 range of folding marquees. This range comes in 4 different sizes, the biggest of which is 4mx8m. Extreme Marquees guarantees their longevity, durability and customisability.

These folding marquees have both printed & clear high-quality PVC plus polyester fabrics in their canopies. Their metal skeletons add more strength while being surprisingly lightweight and portable.

We are aware that omicron is a dangerous beast; we have taken every precaution in our manufacturing process to ensure complete safety and peace of mind. Also, we have added a few more models to our existing range of ‘Infectious Disease Fast Deployment Inflatable Isolation Modules’. These modules helped the community-at-large to a significant extent.”

As this report is being filed, the EU has added Australia to its list of ‘Covid Danger Zones’ and has placed new travel restrictions on unvaccinated Australians visiting Europe. This is despite the fact that over 90% of Australians are fully vaccinated.

It remains to be seen when the omicron wave peaks. While most virologists believe that will happen sometime in the middle of February, the situation is dynamic. If hospitalisation numbers rise exponentially, it will be left to leading manufacturers of bespoke medical tents like Extreme Marquees to stem the tide.
