Ascot Incident Charges

Major Crime Division detectives have charged a man in relation to an incident in Ascot yesterday, Thursday 8 June 2023, in which a police officer was critically injured.
About 1:00am, police were following a vehicle bearing stolen plates. The vehicle came to a stop on Ascot Place in Ascot.
Officers attempted to detain the three occupants of the vehicle, and during the incident one of the officers was run over and dragged underneath the vehicle. The three people from the vehicle were taken into custody.
The officer remains in Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.
A 23-year-old man from Belmont has been charged with:
– Act intended to prevent arrest, caused grievous bodily harm to any person
– Steal Motor Vehicle
– Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police
– Fail to stop when directed by a police officer
– Possession of a prohibited drug (methyl amphetamine)
– Possession of a drug implement
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today, Friday 9 June 2023.
The two other occupants of the vehicle – a 20-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man – have been released, pending further investigation.
