ASSDA FABRICATOR PROJECT OF THE YEAR 2019

– A&G Engineering win the 2019 ASSDA fabricator project of the year for the

Weilong Wines Project

Griffith: Local family owned engineering firm A&G Engineering have won the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association (ASSDA) Fabricator Project of the Year for the Weilong Wines project. The announcement was made at the prestigious PacRim Stainless 2019 Gala Dinner, hosted at the Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach.

A&G Engineering CEO Tom Gallagher said, “We are incredibly proud of this achievement and we are honoured to be recognised by our peers for the Weilong Wines project. A lot of effort was put in over an extended period by all of our staff, and to win an award such as this is great for our team. A huge thank you also to our customer, Weilong Wines, and to the overall Project Manager John Linney and his team at Linney Engineering, for their confidence in us, and their assistance throughout the project.”

About the Weilong Wines Project

Weilong Wines is a brand new 26,000 tonne capacity winery in Red Cliffs, Victoria, just south of Mildura. Weilong Wines is the first Australian winery development of its size and scale for several years, and the company’s investment in the Murray-Darling region is a testament to their confidence in the industry, and the strong reputation and quality of Australian wine.

In total, in excess of 800 tonnes of A&G supplied stainless steel was used in the manufacture of 180 stainless steel tanks (in grade 304/304L), 124 storage vessels ranging from 30,000 litres capacity to 1,200,000 litres , 42 fermentation vessels and 14 general processing tanks – plus associated stair towers, platforms, catwalks, support structures and connections.

As an ASSDA Member and Accredited Fabricator, A&G Engineering designed, manufactured, delivered and installed all of these stainless steel storage and processing vessels for the new winery.

The fabrication of the vessels was spread across A&G’s three workshop premises, including Griffith in New South Wales, Mildura in Victoria and Angaston in South Australia, as well as large 1,200,000 litre vessels build in the field at Weilong Wines.

Transportation of the larger storage vessels required National Heavy Vehicle Regulator road permits, allowing only small pre-set time windows and significant planning to ensure loading and unloading occurred as planned to meet the scope of the permit, and availability of the site and A&G resources on site for installation works to occur efficiently.

With the complexity of works being undertaken day-to-day, including the use of cranes up to 100T, heavy materials, working at heights, hot works, traffic management, job safety analysis requirements and standard operating procedures and training of staff and contractors on site – the breadth of safety considerations were significant. Zero injuries or notifiable incidents were recorded over the duration of the ten-month project on site, a fantastic result given the magnitude of the project.

“We are delighted to have been recognised by ASSDA and are incredibly proud to be a significant contributor to the construction of a technologically-advanced, modern winery, with state-of-the-art stainless steel equipment and infrastructure built to last.” concluded Tom.

The completed project is the first stage of an anticipated 4-stage build that will take place over the next 5-10 years.
