Residents experiencing ongoing issues associated with sewage flowing back into their property may be eligible for installation of a reflux valve.
During heavy rainfall, water can enter the sewerage system causing it to become overloaded and result in the release or the spilling of sewage from the system. A reflux valve is designed to prevent sewerage from flowing back into a property’s drains.
At today’s meeting, Council agreed to engage directly with owners of affected properties and arrange for the installation of a reflux valve.
A report to Council today started that in February 2019, 11 residents were offered reflux valve reimbursement, with only one request for reimbursement received.
Cairns Regional Council owns and operates a 1,311-kilometre network of sewer mains and 180 pumping stations to provide sewerage services to 68,754 connected properties.
