Our department hosted the 2nd UK-Australia Strategic Innovation Dialogue (SID) in Canberra from 15-16 September. The dialogue falls under the Innovation Chapter of the Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement.
Discussions focused on 3 themes:
- renewable energy: offshore wind, grid digitalisation, and power system data and modelling
- life sciences: genomics, including practical support for bilateral collaboration
- research and innovation: Horizon Europe, research infrastructure synergies, and position, navigation and timing (PNT), Earth observation and space.
Following the dialogue, the UK and Australia will develop and release a communiqué and a joint statement on life sciences.
The United Kingdom and Australia enjoy a longstanding innovation relationship in areas that shape the future. Strong ties between researchers, institutions and governments reflect the 2 nations’ strong history of innovative collaboration. The next dialogue will take place in the United Kingdom.
