Australia Day celebrations

Australia Day is an important day of the year to celebrate and show gratitude for this country and what it means to be Australian, while recognising the important contribution made to our society by community members through our Australia Day Community Awards.

The annual Fairfield City Community Awards pay tribute to all those who dedicate their time and effort into making Fairfield City a better community for all. Winners will be announced next week at our Australia Day awards ceremony. Follow Fairfield City Council’s Facebook page for updates.

Kumud Merani, former SBS Radio producer, actor and Premier’s Multicultural Media Award winner has been announced as Fairfield City’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2024. It is our pleasure to have Kumud help us celebrate our Australia Day community awards and residents receiving their citizenship. I look forward to welcoming her to our City.

As part of our Australia Day celebrations, pool entry will be free on Friday 26 January 2024 from 10am-4pm at Prairiewood Leisure Centre and the indoor pool at Fairfield Leisure Centre. You can also get free entry to the Fairfield Youth & Community Centre from 10am-3pm. Finish off your day at Adams Park, Canley Vale for a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm.

Preparations have begun for Fairfield City’s biggest Lunar New Year celebration! Welcome in the Year of the Dragon at Council’s popular cultural celebration in the heart of Cabramatta on Saturday 24 February 2024 from 11am to 9pm.

Join us for a day filled with lion dancing, free face painting and balloon animals, amusement rides, food, fireworks and more. Don’t forget the Blessing of Fairfield City and Community event on Saturday 2 March at 9.30am.

It’s great to start the new year with some of Council’s biggest celebrations. I look forward to celebrating with you.
