Pumping Smarter Water Into Regional Victoria

VIC Premier

The Carroll Labor Government is making every drop of water count by investing in projects that save drinking water and protect local waterways across regional Victoria.

Minister for Water Michaela Settle today announced $10 million in funding for 50 projects through the Integrated Water Management Grants Program and Traditional Owner-led Grants Program.

The grants will help regional communities and Traditional Owners make better use of stormwater, recycled water and other water sources to keep parks, sporting grounds and Country green and healthy.

North of Ballarat, funding will support plans for a new smart water suburb, with stormwater reuse built into homes and neighbourhoods from the start.

The project will reduce the need for drinking water in gardens while helping protect local waterways from stormwater runoff.

New stormwater harvesting projects in Wodonga, Kerang, Rupanyup and Murtoa will help reduce flooding and provide water for local sporting grounds.

Near Mildura, Red Cliffs Golf Club will use drainage water from local irrigation to keep its fairways green.

The project will also help Lower Murray Water explore opportunities to reuse more water across the region.

The investment will help regional communities make better use of water, protect local environments and reduce demand on drinking water supplies.

Since 2017, Integrated Water Management grants have delivered over 175 projects saving roughly 1 billion litres of drinking water a year.

The Carroll Labor Government is backing safe, secure, and reliable water supplies for Victorians into the future.
