Australia Day nominations now open

Wingecarribee Shire

Nominations for Wingecarribee Shire’s 2022 Australia Day Awards are now open.

Residents are invited to nominate their fellow citizens for both the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year awards.

Wingecarribee Shire’s Interim Administrator Viv May said the awards were an opportunity to recognise the efforts of residents who contribute to making the Southern Highlands a wonderful place to live.

“Wingecarribee Shire’s annual Australia Day Awards are one of the most prestigious honours which can be bestowed upon a member of our community,” he said.

“While many people across the Highlands work for the betterment of others with little or no fanfare, these awards are the perfect opportunity to applaud their selfless contributions.”

“Just being nominated is a great tribute and all nominees will be properly recognised for their wonderful work at our Australia Day service.”

Previous recipients have been nominated for their volunteerism, community activism, compassion, generosity and bravery.

Mr May urged all residents to submit a nomination.

“Even if you think someone is well known for their achievements, it’s best not to assume they’ve already been nominated,” he said.

“I encourage all residents to give some thought as to a worthy recipient and submit a nomination of their own.”

The Young Citizen Award is open to people who are aged 25 years or younger.

All nominees must reside in the Wingecarribee Shire and nominations close on Friday 3 December 2021.
