Perth to go yellow for life-changing cancer research this Daffodil Day
Cancer Council WA is calling on residents and businesses to get involved in Daffodil Day’s 40 year anniversary this August, in a bid to raise more than $5.5million nationally for life-changing cancer research.
Cancer Council WA Marketing and Fundraising Director, Alischa Wunsch, said Daffodil Day is a day to give hope for all of us affected by cancer.
“Daffodil Day is about rallying together and supporting people who have faced cancer head-on and honouring the ones we lost too soon. It’s about celebrating vital life-changing cancer research and raising
crucial funds to keep improving cancer outcomes,” Ms Wunsch said.
There are so many ways to be involved. You can take part in the Daffodil Day Dip by plunging into cold water to raise funds, host a yellow-themed fundraiser at your workplace, school or sporting club, buy fresh daffodils or merchandise from one of Cancer Council WA’s stalls such as Bunnings, or simply make a donation online to support life-changing cancer research.
“You can also show your support on social media by wearing yellow, sharing your fundraising efforts and encouraging others to get involved using #DaffodilDay. However you choose to participate, you’ll be
helping bring us closer to a future free from cancer.”
Ms Wunsch said Daffodil Day is a powerful reminder of the impact the community can have when they come together.
“Almost 15,000 West Australians are diagnosed with cancer every year,” she said. “This means every day another 40 West Aussies will hear the words “you have cancer”.
“Despite advances made in research and improving survival rates for many cancers, we know that almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed by the age of 85.
“Thanks to investment in research over many years, amazing advancements have been made in cancer prevention, screening and treatment, helping to increase survival rates from around 50 per cent in the 1980s to more than 70 per cent today.
“Cancer doesn’t rest, and neither do our researchers. By going yellow this August, you’re helping us take the next step in improving cancer prevention, treatment and survival.”
Daffodil Day officially falls on Thursday 20 August, but the entire month is a chance to show your support.
