The Australia and Tasmanian governments are working together to deliver more social and affordable homes for families across Tasmania.
Today’s announcement marks the first home in Homes Tasmania’s Statewide Family Homes program to be completed, and the first home under Round 2 of the Housing Australia Future Fund to be ready for tenants – a significant milestone in the delivery of more social housing for Tasmanians.
The Statewide Family Homes program is one of Homes Tasmania’s successful projects under Round 2 of the Australian Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund.
The program is delivering a mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes across Tasmania, helping address demand for larger social housing properties.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the three-bedroom home was the first of 25 larger social homes being delivered across Tasmania.
“Today marks an exciting milestone as we deliver the first home under the new Statewide Family Homes program,” Minister Vincent said.
“Within days, the new tenants will be walking through the door and beginning a new chapter in a place they can call home – something we can all be proud of.
“While most applicants on the Housing Register need smaller homes, there are also a number of Tasmanian families who need a larger home.
“Children need space to grow, study and play, and families deserve homes which allow them to live together safely, comfortably and with dignity. That’s exactly what this program is delivering.
“The remaining 24 homes in the Statewide Family Homes program are already under construction. They are all expected to be completed by late next year, providing more Tasmanian families the safe, secure foundation they deserve.
“Delivering more homes is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
“This achievement shows what can be accomplished when governments and industry work together to deliver more homes for people who need them most.”
Federal Member for Franklin Julie Collins said the project formed part of the Australian Government’s significant investment in social and affordable housing across Tasmania.
“Across Tasmania, Commonwealth investment is supporting the delivery of more than 1,000 social and affordable homes, with many more homes to come through the next round of the Housing Australia Future Fund,” Minister Collins said.
“This is a massive investment in delivering more safe and secure homes for Tasmanians who need them, and is part of the Federal Government’s ambitious $47 billion plan to build more homes and level the playing field for first home buyers and renters looking for secure housing.”

The Rokeby home was built by Lyden Builders and completed four months ahead of schedule.
