Australian Energy Council Congratulates and Thanks John Pierce

The Australian Energy Council congratulates and thanks John Pierce for his successful leadership of the Australian Energy Market Commission during his two terms as Chairman over the past 10 years.

The Australian Energy Council’s Chief Executive, Sarah McNamara, said that Mr Pierce left an enduring legacy.

“John has skilfully steered the Commission during an extended period of substantial change in the energy sector.

“The AEMC’s reputation for work of the highest integrity and quality is a credit to John’s leadership.

“John is one of the architects of Australia’s energy sector. He has brought a deep knowledge of highly technical issues, a strategic understanding and a thoughtful approach to often challenging issues. His expertise is one of the reasons Australia’s energy markets have been so resilient in recent times as they deal with the pressures of changing demand profiles, increased renewable and distributed energy generation and the retirement of conventional generation.

“John is highly respected as both a friend and a colleague across the energy industry and his contributions will be missed. On behalf of our members I would like to wish John well for the future.”
