Sunraysia residents will be able to gain a first-hand insight into what goes into becoming an award-winning author when Corinne Fenton features at Mildura Library for a special weekend Storytime event this Saturday.

Corinne is best known for her heart-warming picture books, including her latest work Lionel and Me, which has been shortlisted for the 2023 Book of the Year for Early Childhood by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

She will appear at Mildura Library at 11am this Saturday, which is in addition to the library’s usual week-day Storytime events, providing more opportunity for residents to attend.

Corinne will present about the importance of picture books as well as welcoming any questions from attendees about her work.

Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said the event was a unique opportunity for local residents.

“This will not only be an entertaining Storytime for younger readers and their families, but a great opportunity to hear first-hand the inspiration behind her work, and the process Corinne takes to creating and producing her books,” Cr Healy said.

Before becoming an author, Corinne was Assistant Regional Advisor (Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia) for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Corinne has also been a judge for the Primary School section of the Dorothea MacKellar Poetry Awards and is an Ambassador for Australian Reads.

Council’s Storytime sessions celebrate and promote literacy in our community and are free to attend, with no booking or registration required.
