Awarding our top exporters

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Trade

Tasmania’s export sector is booming with jobs and investment flowing as a result, and exporters are invited to celebrate their success with applications for the 2022 Tasmanian Export Awards now open.

The awards are the state’s highest recognition of excellence for businesses currently exporting goods and services internationally, bringing together Tasmania’s top business leaders and our best emerging and established exporters across all our key trade sectors.

The awards not only celebrate Tasmania’s export achievements but increase the profile of Tasmanian companies, help local businesses connect with new partners and find new opportunities to sell Tasmanian quality products globally.

Tasmania’s export economy has gone from strength to strength, reaching a new record high of over $4.55 billion in the 12 months to February 2022.

This is 25 per cent higher than the year before and 64.5 per cent higher than when we came to Government in 2014 – meaning more local jobs, more investment, and more money into our economy to spend on the essential services Tasmanians expect, and deserve.

This is a remarkable feat given the global turbulence in trade that has occurred over the last two years, but highlights the resilience, innovation, and commitment that Tasmanian exporters have to taking their products to the world.

This year’s awards feature 13 national categories and four state-based categories. We have introduced two new state-based awards, the Tasmanian Women in International Trade, and Tasmanian Defence Industries Exporter of the Year. These are in addition to Tasmanian Young Exporter of the Year and the Tasmanian Exporter of the Year.

All winners will be announced at a gala dinner event in Hobart this September – the most prestigious event in the Tasmanian exporting calendar.

State winners in the national categories will go on to compete against winners from each state and territory for the 60th Australian Export Awards held in Canberra this November.

Congratulations to all Tasmanian exporters for their outstanding results over the last few years, and I encourage them to put their name forward for the Awards before applications close on Friday 10 June 2022.
