Barnett misleads on pair arrangement

Tasmanian Labor

Guy Barnett has had a bad week in parliament and his desperate attempts to run away early have been exposed by Labor.

Minister Barnett requested a pair from the end of question time to attend a national Housing Ministers meeting in Canberra at 9.30 on Friday morning.

We were supportive but then questioned why he would need to leave so early as there were flights later in the day that would get him to the meeting on time.

We subsequently amended the pair to allow him to depart parliament at 1 pm.

The fact the Minister set additional meetings which are not covered by the long standing parliamentary pair arrangements is a matter for him to explain to his colleagues who have been made to look foolish because of his determination to flee Parliament early.
