Become foster carer – Make difference to child’s life

  • Cook Government launches campaign to recruit foster and family carers
  • More foster carers needed across WA to support children and young people
  • New recruitment drive will run throughout August and September 2023

The Cook Labor Government has kicked off a State-wide recruitment campaign to encourage more people to consider becoming foster carers.

The ‘Become a foster carer – Make a difference to a child’s life’ campaign was officially launched at Yagan Square this morning with the first billboard display going live.

The new recruitment campaign highlights the different types of foster caring opportunities and demonstrates how foster caring can suit a wide variety of people and lifestyles.

There are a number of options available including temporary care, emergency care, short break care, and permanent care.

To increase community awareness of foster caring, the advertising campaign will reach Western Australians through social media, metro and regional radio advertising, digital billboards, podcasts and streaming, as well as YouTube and search engine marketing.

Foster carers are extraordinary people who step up and choose to make an invaluable contribution to the lives of children, young people, and families in our community.

There are 2,027 foster carer households throughout WA that play an important role in supporting children, but that number is not nearly enough.

The Department of Communities is always looking for more foster and family carers.

As stated by Child Protection Minister Sabine Winton:

“We need more foster carers here in WA and I encourage those that have ever wondered what it’s like to be a foster carer to take the first step today and enquire.

“With this campaign, we want to let people know that foster caring is a rewarding experience and can suit a wide variety of people and lifestyles.

“The Cook Government is searching for individuals who are ready to make a positive difference to a child’s life.”
