Better Seabrook and Altona Meadows

Hobsons Bay City Council’s Better Places initiative is coming to Seabrook and Altona Meadows. Residents, businesses, and visitors are invited to share what they love, what they would change, and what ideas they have for the future of the two suburbs.

Better Places is a place-based approach for how Council designs and delivers projects by looking at our neighbourhoods and their components as a whole, rather than addressing projects as individual pieces.

Deputy Mayor of Hobsons Bay and Wetlands Ward Councillor Diana Grima encourages everyone to get involved and help shape Seabrook and Altona Meadows.

“The first round of Better Places consultation focuses on what the community feels makes Seabrook and Altona Meadows special, what they love about the area, what they think needs to change and big ideas they have for the future,” she said.

“Your feedback, ideas and aspirations will lead to practical on the ground projects and initiatives that the community wants and needs to create a better Seabrook and Altona Meadows.”

The community are invited to meet the Better Places Project Team and provide feedback on Saturday 4 June, between 10am and 12pm at Homestead Run Reserve.

Wetlands Ward Councillor Matt Tyler said the success of the Better Places model is actively involving the community to ensure Council’s work reflects the community’s values and priorities.

“We have so many assets in Seabrook and Altona Meadows that we celebrate and treasure such as the internationally recognised Ramsar listed Cheetham Wetlands, 100 Steps of Federation, Skeleton Creek, neighbourhood playgrounds and the Altona Meadows Library and Seabrook Community Centre,” said Cr Tyler.

“Through Better Places, we have the opportunity to harness community input and create a shared vison that captures the values and aspirations of our community and then undertake real projects and improvements that bring the vision to life making our community even better.”

Better Places Place Guides have been completed and are being implemented in Laverton, and Spotswood and South Kingsville. Following extensive consultation earlier in the year, the Better Places Brooklyn and Altona North Place Guide is being developed and a draft will be available to the community for feedback before being presented to Council for endorsement.
