More than 150 people attended the launch of Kempsey Shire Council’s 2022 Strength, Community and Support Program in Willawarrin recently.

Held at the community hall on Saturday 12 March, attendees enjoyed a free dinner while hearing about the program of activities and workshops on offer. Later, guests were invited to stay on for a free screening of the Black Summer and Beyond documentary.

Council’s Senior Community Recovery Officer, Beck Bickford, said it was wonderful to see a large turnout, particularly after a tough couple of weeks.

“The recent floods have added to what has been a really challenging couple of years for our Shire, so it was great that Council was able to provide an opportunity for people to come together,” she said.

“We do recognise, however, that not everyone is able to attend face-to-face events, so I encourage residents to view the full program on Council’s Recovery website. “From photography workshops, farm safety, noxious weeds management and 4WD operation, there’s definitely something for everyone.”

Some of the upcoming events include a Landcare: Weed Awareness Workshop at the Willawarrin Hall on Thursday 24 March from 5:30pm-7:30pm

In this two-hour workshop, Landcare experts will show you how to identify common local weeds and how to control them effectively. Following this workshop, a practical farm tour will be held on Friday 25 March at 9:30am.
