Walking and cycling through Castle Hill Showground has been made much easier thanks to a new shared walking and biking pathway.
The 500-metre missing link connects Showground Road to Carrington Road in Castle Hill and was jointly funded by the NSW Government in association with The Hills Shire Council.
The project received $440,000 from the Government’s Metropolitan Greenspace Program which aims to increase community access by creating high-quality green spaces and networks that connect town centres, public transport hubs, and major residential areas.
“This new shared pathway makes Castle Hill more accessible to our community, which is absolutely fantastic,” Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said.
“With the creation of this link, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use a pathway to easily access the local facilities, grounds, and the Metro Station within Castle Hill Showground.
“They can also visit homes and businesses along Carrington Road and ride or walk to key centres in The Hills, including Norwest Business Park and Castle Hill CBD.
“I want to thank the NSW Government for their contribution to this project, which has improved pedestrian safety and access into the Showground, which people use daily to commute, play sports, shop at the local farmers’ markets, see local theatre, and attend larger events and festivals.”
Approximately 200 trees and various native shrubs have also been planted along the new pathway, providing additional shade and creating a picturesque loop through the grounds which is home to a dog park, horse stalls, a theatre, a sporting oval and various buildings for hire.
This new shared pathway also forms part of the overall Cattai Creek Corridor, which includes connections for pedestrians and cyclists between Middleton Avenue through Carrington Road and onto Showground Road.
