The Morrison Government is delivering on our commitment to expand Western Australia’s diesel storage capacity.
Through the Boosting Australia’s Diesel Storage Program, the Government is backing ten projects across Australia that will support around 1,000 new jobs and a 40 per cent increase in Australia’s diesel stockholdings.
This includes a $25 million investment in Coogee Chemicals strategic storage project at Kwinana where construction on new diesel storage tanks is now underway.
Assistant Minister for Defence, the Hon Andrew Hastie MP said this was an important project that would help boost our fuel security and secure the sovereign fuel stocks we need to prepare for uncertain future.
“Diesel is vital to Australia’s energy security – it keeps our economy running, and it underpins our critical infrastructure, trucking sector and key industries, such as mining and agriculture,” Assistant Minister Hastie said.
“This $25 million investment from the Morrison Government is enabling a local, family run business here in Kwinana, Coogee Chemicals, to build the infrastructure to store 100 megalitres of diesel – that is not only great for their business but great for our national security and manufacturing sovereignty.”

The Boosting Australia’s Diesel Storage Program is a key part of the Government’s comprehensive fuel security package that is securing Australia’s long-term fuel supply by increasing onshore stockholdings, and ensuring we have a sovereign refining capability that meets our needs well into the future.
