Boutique Logan metalworks companies receive $1.5 million state boost

Two Logan metalworks companies specialising in bespoke fabrication and laser-cut components will upgrade their equipment and create more local jobs after securing over $1.5 million in combined funding from the Palaszczuk Government.

Member for Algester Leeanne Enoch said the rapid growth of both manufacturers is being supported through the $46 million Made in Queensland (MiQ) grants program.

“The Palaszczuk Government is backing Heathwood’s B&R Enclosures and DKM Industries in Browns Plains as they look to increase their capabilities and competitiveness, and create more than 40 new jobs here in Logan,” Ms Enoch said.

“B&R Enclosures received $1,048,320, which will allow them to integrate a leading-edge laser punch and fibre laser robotic welding centre into their operations, while DKM Industries secured $496,181 to install a 10kW laser cutter.

“This will help both businesses win more work from key large-scale sectors such as defence, resources and agriculture.

“Queensland manufacturing is worth $20 billion, and through programs like MiQ our government is helping to advance the sector further.”

B&R Enclosures Managing Director Ken Bridges said the company has built a strong reputation when it comes to the design, manufacturing and supply of enclosure solutions.

“Our products are trusted by some of the largest companies in the world, including Saudi Aramco, Boeing, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Alstom,” Mr Bridges said.

“This funding means we can increase our international competitiveness with high-volume overseas suppliers, and we anticipate we’ll be able to put on around 31 new high-skilled workers.”

DKM Industries Director Don Hendry said the new equipment will allow the business to win work from interstate and put on 13 new workers.

“This funding means we will be one of the first Queensland companies to install this equipment, giving us a competitive edge,” Mr Hendry said.

Minister for Manufacturing Cameron Dick said MiQ is helping local manufacturers expand, upskill and employ.

“Since 2017 the Palaszczuk Government has supported around 75 projects across Queensland through MiQ,” Mr Dick said.

“The grants, which are matched by the manufacturers, will help create more than 930 new jobs over the next five years and are expected to generate approximately $92 million in private sector investment.”

Shortlisted applicants for MiQ Round 3 will be invited to submit detailed applications in November.
