Breast Cancer Network Australia is heading to Darwin

Breast Cancer Network Australia

Australia’s leading breast cancer consumer organisation – is heading to Darwin to host a forum where people affected by breast cancer can connect with each other, hear from experts and discover what support and resources are available locally and through BCNA.

BCNA’s Living Well Information Forums are designed to provide information and support to everyone affected by breast cancer – whether they have been diagnosed with DCIS, early breast cancer or metastatic breast cancer.

On Wednesday 17 May, people living in and around Darwin who have been affected by breast cancer, will have the chance to come along to learn about the latest in current and emerging breast cancer treatments.

It will also be an opportunity to hear about BCNA’s services and resources, to hear from local community groups and BCNA members who will share their experiences.

BCNA visited Darwin last month to meet with health professionals providing important services to those living with breast cancer.

BCNA’s Director of Policy, Advocacy and Support Services Vicki Durston says the Information Forum will be important to bring people together and let them know about what support is available both locally and through BCNA.

‘We know there are significant challenges in Darwin relating to access to support services for those who live outside of main towns and cities. These challenges might include having to travel long distances, lack of access to supportive care such as psychological support, and access to breast care nurses.’

‘For some people, there may be services that they can access that they simply haven’t heard about – these forums are a great way for people to connect with each other and not only hear about what BCNA offers, but to hear about what supports and groups that may be available that are reasonably close by.’

Guest speakers will include Dr Narayan Karanth, Medical Oncologist, Chloe Oliver, Clinical Psychologist, Amy Elson, Allied Health Team Leader at the Allan Walker Cancer Centre, Rachael Bell, Physiotherapist, Gill Farrell, Plastic and Reconstruction Surgeon, and Marg Lavery, Clinical Trials Coordinator, Oncology/Haematology Trials Unit at the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre.

BCNA invites anyone interested in attending the forum to register here.
