BreastScreen WA celebrates 30 years of service and new online results portal

  • New online results portal delivers faster, secure way for women to receive results
  • Client centred innovation that aligns with recommendations in the Sustainable Health Review
  • This year marks the 30th anniversary of BreastScreen WA and the use of technology to provide the best available service continues – with the launching of the new Client Results Portal.

In launching the new portal, Parliamentary Secretary Alanna Clohesy – representing the Minister for Health – also acknowledged the 30 years of life saving services provided by BreastScreen WA, the only accredited breast cancer screening service available to women of Western Australia.

The portal provides women with the opportunity to receive results letters electronically via an ‘opt in’ system, so only those who indicate they wish to receive their results online are included.

The portal provides secure delivery of the result letter via an SMS with an embedded link to within the Client Results Portal. Women can simply click on the link to download a PDF version of the results letter which they may view on their Smartphone – and are able to save, print or forward.

The new technology is efficient, secure and will allow women to see their results faster than waiting for the post to be delivered.

This year the Sustainable Health Review identified many aspects of good healthcare going forward, including patient-centred care, digital healthcare and innovations that promote sustainability. This new initiative meets all of these criteria and leads the way in electronic engagement with patients.

BreastScreen WA views client satisfaction as an important component in driving participation in breast screening and improving rescreening rates. The Client Results Portal is the latest component of online services designed to improve client experience and satisfaction.

BreastScreen WA currently provides a number of online services to WA women including:

    • Online appointment booking
    • SMS and email appointment confirmation
    • SMS appointment reminders
    • SMS rescreen reminders
    • Secure electronic transfer of patient results to GPs.

As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:

“This year marks the 30th anniversary of Western Australia’s only accredited breast cancer screening service, BreastScreen WA. I congratulate them on the launch of this online results portal which improves efficiency and is easy to use.

“Patient-centred health initiatives that utilise digital healthcare and innovation also promote sustainability. This new online portal meets all of these criteria and is a great example of positive electronic engagement with patients.”

As stated by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Health Minister Alanna Clohesy:

“This is efficient, secure and will allow women to see their results quicker than waiting for mail to be delivered.

“I understand it can often be a nervous time waiting for results, so the Clients Result Portal is all about putting the patient first and enabling them to get their results as soon as practicable.”
