‘Bring Beat’ to your suburb

Brisbane residents can now request a Mobile Police Beat be deployed to their local area as part of a new ‘Bring the Beat’ police engagement program.

Following a successful trial in Townsville, Bring the Beat will help inform police across Brisbane where community members and business owners would like to see a greater police presence.

Community members can request a Mobile Police Beat to be deployed to a preferred location as needed, providing greater access and support from policing resources as well as a high-visibility presence in hotspots.

Officers attached to the ‘police station on wheels’ will be able to discuss local crime issues and provide crime prevention and general advice to local residents and business owners.

Since the concept was launched in Townsville last November, Mobile Police Beats have been deployed on more than 50 occasions in 14 different suburbs across the city.

Members of the public in Brisbane and Townsville can now submit a form online on their local myPolice webpage (links below) and request the deployment of the Mobile Police Beat.

All requests for mobile police beat deployments will be considered in conjunction with current intelligence and operational demands.

Queensland Police Service’s Mobile Police Beat capabilities are expected to reach a fleet of 50 by 2027, delivering better police services to all communities.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said Mobile Police Beats are an effective way for police to engage with community members in areas where a police presence is needed most.

“They are strategically deployed at short notice, responding to changes in crime, trends and community concerns.

“One of the key advantages of Mobile Police Beats is their ability to provide immediate access to police at large events and various operating environments, enabling rapid responses and targeted actions against specific crime issues, ensuring the safety and security of the community.

“We’ve seen a great community response to this initiative in Townsville, with residents working with police to ensure the Mobile Police Beat is deployed in the right location at the right time.

“Residents in Brisbane will now also be able to bring a beat to their own streets.”

Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy says Bring the Beat allows local officers to deploy high visibility services to any location within a police district.

“This modern method of policing ensures our workforce is agile and adaptable, and not restricted by traditional policing boundaries.

“We look forward to building on the success we’ve seen in Townsville and we will assess how we can further expand this program across Queensland.”
