Members of the Bayside community have provided their stories and histories to create a more complete and updated history of life in the municipality.
The result of their efforts, the revised City of Bayside: Thematic Environmental History was adopted at the July 2026 Council meeting.
The history brings together information collected earlier this year to highlight the people, places and stories that have helped shape the municipality.
It identified the major themes that have influenced Bayside’s development, including the environment, economy, transport networks and community life.
It will help to guide how Council identifies, protects and celebrates our local heritage into the future, providing a basis for future heritage work and helping ensure important places and stories are not overlooked.
Adopting the Thematic Environmental History does not apply heritage protections to any properties or places.
However, it gives Council a clearer framework to guide future decisions about local heritage work.
