Mornington Peninsula Shire is undertaking restoration and improvement works to the 160-year-old Heritage Homestead at The Briars.
The Briars Heritage Homestead is co-owned by the Shire and National Trust of Australia (Victoria).
Mornington Peninsula Mayor and Briars Ward Councillor Sam Hearn said: “Heritage places are an integral part of the Mornington Peninsula community. This homestead particularly is of Victoria’s oldest pastoral homesteads and estates with links to Napoleon Bonaparte”.
As part of the improvement works, the Shire will also be displaying the collection of items gifted by Napoleon to one of the earliest European families to settle on the Peninsula.
Briars Ward Councillor Rosie Clark said: “These essential works will enhance the structural integrity of the Homestead and preserve the heritage beauty through using heritage materials and craftsmanship”.
Briars Ward Councillor Bev Colomb said: “We thank the community and wonderful volunteers for their patience. We all look forward to our very valued Homestead opening once again for visits and events”.
The restoration works are currently underway and is anticipated to be completed in three months.
