Bringing quality arts to regions

The Morrison Government is investing more than $580,000 to deliver 16 arts projects to locations in regional Australia.

Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher, said the funding is being delivered under the Festivals Australia program which brings new arts projects to festivals in remote areas that otherwise may not be commercially viable.

Successful recipients for Round 8 of the Festivals Australia Program include:

  • $36,075 for a large-scale installation and puppetry experience as part of the 2020 Tasmanian Museum And Gallery Children’s Festival in Tasmania.
  • $35,000 for Dance Alice, Dance! to showcase local dance works at the Alice Desert Festival in the Northern Territory.
  • $40,000 for The heARTh: Youth on Fire! to showcase the stories of young artists in regional Queensland.
  • $41,644 for Mighty Playwrights, to develop short plays to be performed in Goulburn, New South Wales.

“This program allows people in regional and remote areas to experience high-quality, innovative arts projects,” Minister Fletcher said.

“Art is a powerful medium for the expression of creativity, identity and curiosity. It enriches our lives and brings communities together.

“This is true for all Australians, no matter where they live, which is why I am proud the Government is bringing these inspiring new projects to some of the most remote parts of the country.”
