The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election promise to advance water security for Scenic Rim farmers. The 2026-27 State Budget provides $3.4 million to progress the detailed business case for the Water for Warrill Irrigation Project.

The detailed business case will comprehensively assess long-term options to improve water security and reliability for agricultural production in Warrill and Fassifern Valleys of the Scenic Rim.

The former Labor Government failed to progress this critical water security project, leaving Scenic Rim farmers without the water security and investment certainty they were calling for.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering for regional Queensland by progressing this commitment under our Watertight Water Security Plan, focused on moving high priority water, increasing production and strengthening investment certainty in the Scenic Rim.

It will build on earlier feasibility work and address longstanding water supply constraints to support improved productivity, sustainable growth, and resilience to meet current and future demand.

The investment builds on the Crisafulli Government’s broader efforts to explore water and food security opportunities in South East Queensland.

Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the Crisafulli Government was committed to backing the future of the region’s high-value agricultural industries by delivering a comprehensive business case.

“The Scenic Rim is a vital part of Queensland’s food bowl, and this year’s State Budget delivers on our election promise to explore solutions for a more reliable water supply to support the region’s future,” Minister Leahy said.

“For too long under the former Labor Government, projects like this were not progressed, leaving farmers without the water security and certainty they need to plan for the future.

“This is about unlocking new opportunities and providing certainty for the farming industry, which will create new jobs and drive regional growth,” Minister Leahy said.

“We are taking decisive steps to ensure the Scenic Rim remains a strong and sustainable contributor to Queensland’s economy and food security for generations to come, while working towards our goal of growing our State’s primary production to $30 billion by 2030.”

Minister for Primary Industries Tony Perrett said the investment was a critical step in strengthening long-term water reliability for Scenic Rim producers.

“This $3.4 million investment delivers the next stage of work to properly assess how we can improve water security for irrigated agriculture across the Warrill and Fassifern Valleys,” Minister Perrett said.

“It is about backing primary producers with the planning and certainty needed to support productivity, investment and long-term growth in one of Queensland’s important agricultural regions.”
