The wheatbelt community of Burracoppin hold an annual Daffodil Day, and this year will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary
Over the past 20 years, the Burracoppin community has raised over $100,000 to support vital cancer research.
” Cancer Council’s on Daffodil Day resonates with us as the perfect recipient of our fundraising as cancer affects so many people.” Says Kate Downsborough, a representative from the Burracoppin Daffodil Day Committee.
“This year we hope to raise over $10,000 as our last hurrah. We have achieved this in the past so would love to do it again.” What initially started as a small mother’s group coming together to run this event, has now grown into the Burracoppin Daffodil Day Committee.
“A few of our committee members and our wider community have been impacted by cancer. This event is in honour of these people.”
Last year, 160 community members attended the event, enjoying a great selection of stalls, morning tea, musical performances, an ice cream van and a highly acclaimed raffle with over 70 prizes. The committee are busy planning another exciting event this year and encourage anyone in the area to come along to support the event on Friday 23 August at Burracoppin Sports Pavillion.
“We hope the funds we raise can help West Australians impacted by cancer in any way possible, and give a glimmer of hope to our loved ones and future generations by reducing the diagnosis of cancer through ever developing research.”
