Call for tenders to deliver Broome family and domestic violence hub

  • Tenders invited to deliver a new One Stop Hub for family and domestic violence in Broome
  • An Aboriginal-led organisation is sought to lead service delivery
  • New hub will provide victim-survivors of family and domestic violence with a range of services and supports in a single location
  • Similar One Stop Hubs have been established in Kalgoorlie and Mirrabooka

A tender process is underway to lead the delivery of a new One Stop Hub for family and domestic violence (FDV) services in Broome.

The Broome FDV Hub will provide a range of specialist supports for people experiencing family and domestic violence, including advocacy, counselling, legal assistance and support for children, from a single location. It will also provide family and domestic violence outreach services in Derby and Bidyadanga.

A restricted request for tender is open to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations or Aboriginal Registered Businesses to lead the Broome Hub services. The Broome Hub will have a strong cultural lens, in recognition of the disproportionate impact of family violence in Aboriginal communities.

The Broome Hub forms a crucial part of the Cook Government’s commitment to boost initiatives that support victim-survivors of family and domestic violence and hold perpetrators to account. Funding of $16.3 million was announced in the 2022-23 State Budget to establish a One Stop FDV Hub in Broome, building on the success of similar hubs in Mirrabooka and Kalgoorlie. A fourth hub is being developed in Armadale.

The successful service provider is scheduled to begin operating next year under a five-year contract.

As stated by Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Sabine Winton:

“Sadly, family violence is a significant issue in the Western Australia community, affecting one in four women and their children.

“We know Aboriginal women experience even higher rates of domestic violence – as many as three in every five Aboriginal women experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

“We are determined to make it easier for those people impacted by domestic violence to get the help they need.

“One Stop Hubs bring together specialist services so that victim-survivors can receive the services and supports they need in one location, provided in a way that prevents them from having to retell their story, through holistic, wrap-around support and care.”

As stated by the Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:

“The Broome One Stop Domestic Violence Hub will build on the success of similar hubs in Mirrabooka and Kalgoorlie and further support the work of the Cook Government to promote Aboriginal family safety.

“I’m so pleased to see this important election commitment for the West Kimberley progressing and I am looking forward to the appointment of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations or Aboriginal Registered Businesses to lead the Broome Hub services when the tender process is finalised.

“We know people want wrap-around service delivery as victim-survivors of domestic violence need a place to get support and to heal, and the hub will deliver just that.”
